3 Unique Ideas to Celebrate Your Mom this Mother's Day

Mother’s Day will be a little different this year. We’re used to being able to connect with our mothers in person, to spend that quality face-to-face time that means so much to these incredible women who raised us. Creating that kind of connection this year will be a challenge - but it’s one that we’re ready and willing to meet. After all, if you can’t jump over a few obstacles for your mother, who will you do it for?

We have a few ideas for how you can make Mother’s Day special for your mother (or other parental role models that you want to celebrate!) this year. Just keep reading to jog your creativity.

Bring family time to FaceTime

We’ve been a part of countless FaceTime and Zoom meetings over the course of the safer at home order here in Wisconsin, and we couldn’t be more thankful for these technologies that allow us to stay connected. However, to make Mother’s Day a little extra special, consider making time for your mother and your siblings to jump on a call and work on an activity together. Find a recipe and execute it together, while staying in your own homes. Scour Pinterest for a fun craft idea that you can all tackle with supplies from your own closets. You’ll find that you won’t take for granted that joy of being together, and that setting aside intentional time to connect may actually be more meaningful than your typical family get-together.

Write her a letter for every year

Being a mother is more than something you experience when your children are small. Motherhood lasts for an entire lifetime - and for you child’s entire lifetime. Remind your mother of her impact on your life by writing her a letter for each year that you’ve been alive. Try to draw on memories from that time, invoking a bit of nostalgia as you show your mother just how much you care about her. Though we can’t be together this year, these memories will mean so much and will surely give your mother a reason to smile (and maybe tear up!) this Mother’s Day. Bonus: this idea gives you a great way to support the post office, which keeps so many small businesses like ours running during this time.

Help her support her favorite business or a cause close to her heart

Many of us feel that celebrations are pointless right now, that there is so much going on in the world that it’s hard to see what’s waiting on the other side. Giving back in your mother’s name could be the perfect way to show her you care about her, while adding a deeper meaning to your gift. Whether she has a favorite local boutique, or is passionate about a cause, making a donation or purchasing a gift card that she can use to support the business or organization through this pandemic lets you provide a bit of positivity in an uncertain time.

It’s not easy to miss out on a day like Mother’s Day, a day for celebration and gratitude for the women who led us through this life. However, with a bit of creativity, and the knowledge that mothers just want to have genuine, meaningful connections with their children, you can make this Mother’s Day one to remember.
