Trend Report: Warm Toned Walls

There’s something about spending every waking moment in your home that makes you want to shake it up, try something new, or take on a project. It’s inevitable that you would notice things that you’d like to improve now that you have ample time to take in every detail of each room. Many of us are turning to Pinterest as a source of inspiration, and that’s just what we did before diving into one of our favorite trends: warm-toned walls.

One reason we’re into this trend right now: it’s a fairly easy DIY that can be accomplished with few materials - and even fewer trips to the hardware store. You can easily get all of the materials that you need to paint a wall (or an entire room!) online. Paint is also a simple project to redo if you make a mistake. No lifelong commitments here.

Why warm tones?

When we think about what vibe we want from our home, one word usually comes to mind: comfort. We want to feel like we have created a place that welcomes us in, that wraps us up when we’ve had a down day, or reflects our sunny disposition back to us when we’re on cloud nine. Warm tones do just that, giving any room a calmer feel, where cool tones can have a tendency to feel sterile. You already know our penchant for warm tones (you’ve seen the shop!), but we think this trend can extend into just about any person’s home, no matter your style. It’s all about choosing the right color.

Choosing a warm toned paint color

There are a veritable rainbow of warm toned paint colors to choose from, and they can work with essentially any interior style. These are just a few of our favorites:

Peach

This is the color that Cire’, Dune Gift + Home’s founder, chose for her home. Choosing to go all out and painting multiple walls, this warm “peach cobbler” is perfectly accented by thick, original white trim. This shade is the perfect way to go pink without leaning toward bubblegum.

Golden Yellow

If you’re craving a bit of sunshine, you can turn to paint to brighten your day. A goldenrod yellow has brown undertones throughout, so you don’t end up with a sunny side up space. Instead, you’ll create a vintage room, a Wes Anderson-inspired dream.

Cream

For the minimalist in all of us, cream is a great alternative to purse Scandinavian-white or a traditional beige. Think of it like a traditional vanilla frosting, sweet without being stark or synthetic. Keep your trim natural, or choose a slightly darker tan for a contrast.

Terracotta

You love it for planters and pots, but have you thought about painting your walls with this bold color? It perfectly complements greenery and neutrals, so you can let the paint color speak for itself without making any major changes to your decor.

Dirty Chai

If bright colors or muted pinks aren’t your thing, choosing a deep chai or an earthy brown could be your go-to. We picture this color used in a book nook or a large closet or dressing room, an area that is meant to bring you relaxation and peace.

If you’re itching to make a change in your home, think about trying this trend. Warm toned walls are our biggest interior inspiration right now, and we believe they’re here to stay. Be sure to tag us on Instagram (@dune_giftandhome) and show us your progress!
