Scents for the Season: Cozy Winter Fragrance

Fragrance is so personal. Scents can make intimate memories come to life - when you come across something familiar you may not even be able to put your finger on what you’re remembering, but your emotions tell the story. Women and men alike choose “signature scents” to wear for special occasions and casual days, and even the smell of a specific laundry detergent can be a calling card for the person whose clothes carry the scent.

Put it this way: the scents you surround yourself with matter. Whether you’re creating a warm environment in your home, or choosing a fragrance for yourself, we have a few recommendations for this wintery season.

Minor Arcana from Under Aurora

It’s frigid outside - let your fragrance warm up every interaction. Under Aurora is a fragrance and skincare line that we carry in Dune that uses 100% pure, high grade essential oils and plant-based ingredients. We were enamored with this scent the first time we spritzed it in the shop. Minor Arcana is described as “smoky, earthy, and inspired by tarot, this blend is a combination of vetiver, patchouli, and rosemary” by Under Aurora, just the thing to counteract that crisp chill in the air.

Moss and Resin from Ginger June

There’s something about a scent that promises you a piece of nature, and Moss and Resin is just that - and a bit more. Ginger June creates these soy candles with only vegan and cruelty-free ingredients, leaving out parabens and phthalates for a carefree burn. So, what exactly does Moss and Resin smell like? According to Ginger June, “wood & oakmoss blended with citrus, herbs, tonka bean and amber. Infused with natural essential oils, including sage, lavandin, and orange”. We can get behind this citrus-spiked take on a woodsy scent.

Cardamom from Brooklyn Candle Studio

One of our favorite types of winter scents has a bit of spice. Cardamom Minimalist candle from Brooklyn Candle Studio is described as having, “notes of warm cardamom, clove, and nutmeg with a touch of citrus envelope you in a cozy cloud of spice and sophistication”. With this candle in your home, you can get all the benefits of a warm pie in the oven, without any of the work. Brooklyn Candle Studio also uses 100% soy wax, and all candles are vegan, cruelty-free, phthalate-free, and petroleum-free.

Coze from Aiden and Coco

Candles aren’t the only way to scent your home! Atmosphere sprays made with clean ingredients are a great way for “spot scenting”, when you just need a fragrance refresh. This option from Aiden and Coco is considered “warm, soothing, and relaxing” due to its notes of blood orange, patchouli, and palmarosa. This earthy, but bright scent is a modern take on a typical winter fragrance, and we can’t get enough.

Wisconsin winters can drag on, but having a winter scent in your back pocket can make the days just a little bit brighter. If your interest has been piqued, come on into the shop and say hello! We’ll help you pick a scent that’s perfect for your preferences, and give you some advice on how to layer them for a customized scent in your home or on your body.
